As any of you know who follow me on Twitter, I generally use the site to try to be amusing, informative or entertaining. And 99.9% of any sarcasm I tweet is directed at myself. Once in awhile, however, I may see or think of something I believe to be funny that uses imagery or online news information about someone else. Last week I posted a photo of an old record album by the 70s pop group, Orleans. The album cover, like ones by so many other artists in history, including myself, is pretty funny to look at now, and I tweeted a comment about it saying essentially, “They thought this cover was a good idea??!!”

Well, I have just learned that the lead singer of Orleans, Larry Hoppen, passed away literally one week before my tweet. The coincidence is mind blowing in its randomness. I want to make it crystal clear that I had no idea the man had died, and would never be so disrespectful or insensitive as to post something like that had I known.

That “Waking and Dreaming” album, whose cover I joked about, was purchased by my twelve year old self in 1976, and I was always a big fan of Larry’s great voice. That “Waking and Dreaming” album, whose cover I joked about, was purchased by my twelve year old self in 1976, and I was always a big fan of Larry’s great voice. I’m sad to hear of his passing at the young age of 61, and my thoughts are with his loved ones. RIP Larry Hoppen.
